India’s AI revolution is accelerating, driven by bold investments, deep-tech startups, and a young talent pool ready to innovate. At the BT AI Summit 2025, industry leaders and educators discussed how the country can turn its AI promise into practical, real-world success. The panel featured Shashidhar Ramakrishnaiah (CTO, Fractal), Harsh Dhand (Global Product Partnerships, Google Research), Kshitij Khandelwal (CTO, Pixxel), and Dr. Vidya Shankar Shetty (Pro Vice Chancellor, Presidency University, Bengaluru). Together, they explored the key enablers—infrastructure, innovation, and inclusion—that will shape India’s AI decade.
Fractal’s Ramakrishnaiah argued that many organizations stall at the experimentation phase and fail to scale. He outlined a “decision-backward approach” that starts from the business problem and works backward to build the right AI solution. He also stressed the pivotal role startups play in driving real adoption, bringing energy, risk tolerance, and novel ideas that can push traditional enterprises to reimagine possibilities.
Google’s notable commitment was highlighted by Harsh Dhand, who noted a recent $15 billion investment to establish one of the company’s largest AI innovation hubs in India. The initiative aims to provide foundational infrastructure, data sets, compute power, and models to empower thousands of researchers and fuel a broader AI ecosystem across the country.
Themed “India’s AI Moment: From Adoption to Disruption,” the summit sought to translate pilots into core strategy for Indian enterprises and accelerate inclusive growth. As executives and educators map the path forward, voices from across the ecosystem emphasized the need for scalable capabilities, robust governance, and programs that prepare the workforce for an AI-enabled future. In related perspectives, industry experts cautioned that AI will change jobs rather than simply remove them, underscoring the importance of retraining and upskilling as core priorities.
