Marty Supreme, Josh Safdie’s 1950s table-tennis drama from A24, opened with $27.1 million over the four-day weekend. The indie pic’s debut demonstrates Chalamet’s broad appeal, as the 30-year-old actor promoted the film with high-profile stunts, including an appearance atop the Sphere in Las Vegas. The film’s performance marks a strong finish for indie cinema in a year dominated by tentpole franchises.
While Avatar’s domestic numbers lagged behind its 2022 predecessor on opening, it has held up much better in its second weekend, dipping 28% versus 53% for Way of Water, signaling durable interest as audiences head into the new year.
