A speeding Mercedes crashed into three coworkers who had stepped out of Ambience Mall in Delhi's Vasant Kunj after finishing their shifts at a Paul bakery-café nearby. One man, 23-year-old Rohit Singh, was killed, while two others were injured. The victims had been leaving the mall when the SUV struck them. The driver, identified as Shivam Arora, has been detained, and police said the incident is under investigation.
Police said the driver was returning from his wedding reception with his wife and brother when the crash occurred. A medical examination will determine whether he was under the influence at the time of the incident.
Rohit Singh, a native of Chamoli in Uttarakhand, was described by his family as the sole breadwinner. His uncle Balwant tearfully told reporters that Rohit was hardworking and had promised to visit them after taking some time off from work. The family has traveled to Delhi as they process the loss and seek accountability for the tragedy.
Authorities continued to piece together how the Mercedes lost control and struck the three coworkers near the auto stand by Ambience Mall on Nelson Mandela Marg. The investigation is ongoing as police review surveillance footage and gather statements from witnesses.
