A tragic militant attack along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh leaves one Assam Rifles jawan dead and four injured. Security operations intensified in the sensitive Changlang district.
A solemn shadow has fallen over Arunachal Pradesh following a suspected militant attack along the India-Myanmar border. On Tuesday morning, an Assam Rifles patrol team was ambushed, resulting in the death of one jawan and injuries to four others.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 AM near Nampong Nallah under Nampong Circle in the Changlang district, saw suspected militants open fire on the patrol.
Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, aged 42, tragically lost his life in the line of duty.
The four injured personnel have been evacuated for medical treatment, though their current condition remains awaited.
Officials confirmed the attack, with the Changlang Superintendent of Police, Kirli Padu, stating that information was received and an investigation initiated. The patrol team from the 21 Assam Rifles was engaged in an area where border fencing work was actively underway, highlighting the persistent dangers faced by security forces in the region.
Following the ambush, security forces have significantly intensified their operations across the sensitive India-Myanmar border area. This particular stretch of the border in Changlang district has long been considered volatile due to the continuous movement and activities of various insurgent groups.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining security and stability in the northeastern border regions.
Further details regarding the attack are anticipated as the Assam Rifles prepares an official statement. This tragic event also comes at a time when the Centre has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in parts of Arunachal Pradesh for another six months, reflecting the continued security concerns in the state.
