Mumbai's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has made a significant breakthrough, apprehending a man from Bihar at Bandra Terminus on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The arrest led to the seizure of a whopping 10.10 kg of 'charas' (cannabis resin), estimated to have a street value of ₹10.01 crores.
The accused, identified as a 31-year-old uneducated auto driver from Bihar and a father of three, was reportedly acting suspiciously when he was intercepted by police. According to authorities, he had previously been involved in similar drug deliveries within Mumbai. DCP ANC Purnima Choughle Shringi stated that the man had commenced his journey from Motihari station in Bihar before arriving in Mumbai.
Following his arrest, the man was produced before a local court, which has remanded him to police custody until August 21 for further investigation. He faces serious charges under Section 8(c) read with 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. These sections pertain to the illegal production, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, import, export, or use of cannabis. Possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis can lead to rigorous imprisonment of 10 to 20 years, along with a fine ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh.
DCP Shringi elaborated on the professionalism involved in the operation, noting that the charas was compressed and wet, allowing for compact transportation. It was also expertly wrapped and packed to prevent any detection by smell, suggesting the carrier's considerable experience. "His job was just to hand over the drugs and go back," Ms. Shringi explained, adding that the accused is currently uncooperative, making it challenging to uncover potential links to a larger drug syndicate. The ANC continues its efforts to dismantle the network behind this high-value narcotics operation.
