Robben Island Survivor Breaks Silence on Hidden Torture
Former prisoner and Nelson Mandela inmate Tom Moses reveals untold stories of Robben Island in South Africa and warns against silence.
Tom Moses was only 19 when he was jailed on Robben Island in 1976. He spent nine years behind bars for opposing apartheid. Today he says he still carries a wound that bleeds.

Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu wrote books but also took secrets of the prison to their graves. Moses fears history will be distorted if survivors remain silent. He insists the truth must be told.
Mandela urged prisoners to avoid hatred and bitterness. He warned anger leads to self destruction. Moses remembers those words but says silence about torture and humiliation is dangerous.
Moses believes survivors must speak now. He says future generations may accuse them of being accomplices if they fail to reveal the full story.
The prison is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moses works as a tour guide. He shares his testimony with visitors and urges others to do the same.
