L7 Drops New Single "Loma Linda" & Kicks Off Emotional Final Tour!
Rock legends L7 release "Loma Linda" featuring returning bassist Janis Tanaka, honoring Jennifer Finch's legacy. Get ready for their "Last Hurrah Tour", a poignant farewell.
Grunge-punk icons L7 have unveiled a new single, "Loma Linda," marking a poignant moment for the band as they prepare to embark on their final world tour. The track, originally recorded in 2003 with bassist Janis Tanaka, has been updated with fresh music and lyrics this week and is available as a free download before hitting streaming platforms.
This release comes as a tribute and a gesture of gratitude following the recent passing of their longtime bassist, Jennifer Finch.
Jennifer Finch, a beloved member of L7, sadly passed away on July 18 at the age of 59 after a battle with brain cancer. Her death casts a significant emotional shadow over the band's upcoming "The Last Hurrah Tour," which kicks off tomorrow in San Diego at the Casbah.
Donita Sparks, L7's singer and guitarist, expressed the bittersweet sentiment surrounding these events, stating,
It's a really weird feeling of grieving but also having to keep the ball moving forward.
The return of Janis Tanaka, who previously played with L7 from 1999 to 2001, adds another layer to the band's current journey. Sparks recounted finding the unfinished track from Tanaka's earlier tenure in the band's archives.
It still sounded rather fresh and very L7 so we recorded new vocals with new lyrics and some other additional tracks and cranked it out in a couple of days ahead of this upcoming tour,
Sparks shared, expressing hope that fans will enjoy it.
Sparks also revealed that Finch herself had hoped to play the fall dates, and the decision to proceed with the tour was influenced by Finch's wishes. "The tour is supposed to be joyous saying goodbye," Sparks reflected. "We can celebrate Jennifer.
Now there's going to be a lot more emotion with it for sure. We're tying up our career with a ribbon. That's what Jennifer wanted us to do, so we're doing it." The tour promises to be a powerful and emotional farewell, celebrating both their enduring music and the legacy of Jennifer Finch.
