The Disaster Management Department on Wednesday evening issued a standard operating procedure for the collection of DNA samples, dental records and the burial of bodies in connection with the Thrissur fireworks accident. The guidelines cover cases involving unidentified bodies, identified but unclaimed bodies, disputed identifications, and situations where only body parts have been recovered. The SOP is to be implemented by the District Disaster Management Authority (Thrissur), the Police and Health Department, and the concerned grama panchayats and municipalities.
The explosion at a fireworks unit in Thrissur left 13 people dead and many injured, with five in critical condition. Officials said four sheds were destroyed in the blast, and authorities are examining whether intense heat contributed to the disaster.
An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, which occurred during festival preparations.
