NIA Arrests MBBS Student in Uttar Dinajpur Over Suspected Terror Links
NIA detains a youth from Sujapur amid probes into terror links; devices seized as Delhi blast background fuels new investigation.
A National Investigation Agency team arrested a youth in Sujapur, Uttar Dinajpur district, on Friday morning on suspicion of links to terror outfits. The individual has been identified as Janisur Alam, a resident of Ludhiana, with reported ancestral roots in Bengal. He was seen loitering around railway station premises before allegedly attempting to flee when intercepted, and he was taken into custody. Digital devices and documents were seized as part of the investigation, according to a central agency source. Officials say the accused may be linked to multiple acts of sabotage, though a direct connection to the Delhi blast has not yet been established.
Thirteen people were killed and several injured in the Delhi blast near the Red Fort, which the government has termed a terrorist incident. In the wake of that event, the NIA raided the residence of migrant worker Moinul Hasan at Nabagram in Murshidabad district; Hasan had worked in Delhi and Mumbai and, during his time in Delhi, shared accommodation with a Bangladeshi national with whom he is believed to have maintained long-term contact. The NIA is examining whether Hasan had any links to extremist organisations during that period or was in touch with the youth arrested in Uttar Dinajpur.
The arrested individual has also been identified in reports as Janisur Alam alias Nisar Alam, an MBBS student of Al-Falah University, Haryana. Senior officers say the case is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt networks with possible cross-border connections.
