A child’s birthday celebration in Stockton turned deadly when a gunman opened fire inside a banquet hall packed with guests, resulting in four deaths and more than 10 people wounded. Officials say the venue hosted around 100 to 150 attendees at the time of the attack, which occurred around 6:00 pm on a weekend night. The victims included three children, ages 8, 9, and 14, along with a 21-year-old adult. In total, about 11 others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.
Investigators describe the incident as targeted, and the shooter remains at large as authorities comb through evidence and review surveillance footage. San Joaquin County authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, stressing the importance of community cooperation in solving this case.
To assist the investigation and encourage tips, the mayor of Stockton announced a $25,000 bounty for information leading to an arrest or identification of the gunman. Local leaders and residents are grappling with the shock of such violence at a family gathering and are calling for calm and support for the affected families while investigators continue their work.
