Queen Camilla Celebrates Books' 'Life-Enhancing Power' Amid Royal Spotlight

Queen Camilla recently brought her passion for literature to life at the first day of The Queen’s Reading Room Festival, held at the magnificent Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Welcomed by applause, Her Majesty emphasized her deep love for books and their "life-enhancing power," a sentiment she eagerly wishes to share with others.

The festival marks the fourth event for The Queen's Reading Room, a charity Camilla founded after her successful Instagram book club during the pandemic.

What began as a simple online recommendation platform has blossomed into a global community connecting millions from over 180 countries.

This initiative not only facilitates book swaps and research but also donates thousands of books to women's refuges and homeless shelters, highlighting the charity's profound impact.

Addressing guests in Chatsworth House's historic Painted Hall, Camilla described being at the stately home, with its library boasting over 17,000 books, as "like coming home." She noted Chatsworth's rich literary history, having inspired and hosted celebrated authors such as Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Gaskell. Camilla expressed her hope that future generations would also reminisce about the day contemporary literary giants like William Boyd and Elif Shafak graced its halls.

Her appearance comes amidst recent allegations made about the King in extracts from Earl Spencer's new memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister." The book includes claims that have prompted a strong response from Buckingham Palace. Despite the swirling headlines, Queen Camilla's focus remained firmly on the power of literature.

During her visit, she engaged with members of four local book clubs, including one from the Elm Foundation, which supports individuals affected by domestic abuse. She also unveiled her four autumn book recommendations: "Finding Belle" by Reeta Chakrabarti, "The Picture Of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde, "Whistler" by Ann Patchett, and "Sashenka" by Simon Sebag Montefiore.

Her steadfast dedication to promoting reading and its transformative effects was clearly at the forefront of the day's events.
