Tui Ranked Among UK's Worst for Flight Delays in 2025: Know Your Rights
Holidaymakers, beware! Tui Airways faced significant delays from UK airports in 2025, with one route averaging 46 minutes. Discover what this means for your travel plans and your rights.
Tui Airways has been identified as one of the least punctual airlines operating from UK airports in 2025. An analysis of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data revealed that, on average, the leisure airline's flights departing from UK hubs were delayed by 20 minutes and 24 seconds.
Among its numerous routes, the service from Birmingham to the Greek island of Zante stood out as the worst-performing. This particular route, which had at least 100 flights, experienced an average delay of 46 minutes, adding significant frustration for holidaymakers eager to start their vacations.
Rory Boland, the editor of consumer magazine Which? Travel, voiced strong concerns about the findings. He stated that it is "unacceptable" for airline passengers to "continue to face unreliable service," especially considering recent fare increases. Boland urged airlines to enhance their support for travelers during delays, emphasizing the need for clear communication regarding passenger rights and eligibility for compensation. He also advised passengers to actively pursue claims if they believe an airline is responsible for a delay, and to escalate the complaint if compensation is initially refused.
Owned by Tui Group, which also manages the UK’s second-largest package holiday company, Tui Airways serves more than 20 airports across the UK. Many of its holiday customers rely on the airline for their travel arrangements. The comprehensive analysis included 34 airlines that operated over 2,500 scheduled and chartered departures from UK airports in 2025, specifically excluding cancelled flights.
Responding to the report, Aage Dunhaupt, Tui Group’s director of communications, acknowledged the impact of delays on travelers. He commented, “We fully understand that for holidaymakers, every minute counts.” Dunhaupt affirmed that minimizing delays remains a top priority and highlighted the continuous efforts of their teams to improve operational performance across the network. He further explained that the airline makes "a conscious choice" to operate flights "wherever possible, even if they are delayed, rather than cancelling them," believing this approach ensures more travelers reach their destinations, albeit later than planned.
