David Byrne's 'Who Is The Sky?' Tour Becomes 70mm Concert Film!

Fans of David Byrne are in for a treat as his acclaimed "Who Is The Sky?" world tour is being transformed into a concert film, directed by the talented filmmaker Brady Corbet.

This highly anticipated project, currently in post-production, was captured over multiple nights at the historic Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, a city with special significance as Byrne's hometown. The film uniquely utilizes 70mm stock, promising a visually grand experience.

Byrne himself expressed his excitement about the format, stating,

When Brady told me he wanted to shoot our show in 70 millimeter (70 millimeter!) I didn't realize what a difference it would make until I saw some frames he sent me. He was right, it really does capture the wide screen visual scope of the show. I've never seen anything like it.

Corbet brings significant artistic pedigree to the project, having recently directed "The Brutalist," which garnered impressive nominations at the 2025 Academy Awards and secured three wins. His vision is expected to bring a fresh perspective to Byrne's already visually stunning performances.

This isn't Byrne's first foray into the world of concert films. Following the iconic Talking Heads film "Stop Making Sense," which was restored and rereleased in 2023, Spike Lee adapted Byrne's Broadway production of "American Utopia" for the screen in 2020, earning two Emmy Awards.

This new collaboration with Corbet adds another exciting chapter to his cinematic legacy.

The "Who Is The Sky?" tour, which has seen over 150 performances across four continents since its launch last September, is celebrated for its dynamic production. It features a 13-person ensemble of musicians, singers, and dancers, all in constant motion on stage.

The setlist thoughtfully blends tracks from Byrne's 2025 album, "Who Is The Sky?", with beloved Talking Heads classics such as “Psycho Killer,” “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody),” “Life During Wartime,” and “Burning Down the House.” Earlier this year, a condensed version of the show captivated audiences at Coachella, and the news of the film arrives as the tour heads into its final stretch.
