Israeli strike on Gaza City car leaves four dead amid fragile ceasefire
A car strike in Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood left four dead and others wounded as fighting tests a recently brokered truce.
An Israeli airstrike hit a car in Gaza City, killing four people and wounding others, medics said. The attack occurred in Gaza City’s densely populated Rimal neighbourhood as a new ceasefire, brokered by the United States, took effect on October 10. Reports from Shifa Hospital described a vehicle strike that left seven dead and 18 wounded, illustrating conflicting casualty tallies in the immediate aftermath.
Health officials in Gaza reported at least 14 killed and 45 wounded across the strip in related strikes during the ceasefire's latest phase. Among the casualties, a strike near Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza killed at least three people and wounded 11; a strike on a house in Nuseirat camp killed one child and wounded 16; and a strike on a house in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza killed three people, including a woman, according to hospital officials.
Israel’s military, in a separate statement, said it carried out attacks against Hamas militants after an armed terrorist crossed into Israeli-held territory and shot at troops in southern Gaza, with no Israeli soldiers reported harmed. The army added that the individual had used a road through which humanitarian aid enters the territory. In additional statements, the IDF said its forces killed three “terrorists” in the Rafah area and killed two others after firing on four people who crossed into Israeli-held areas and advanced toward soldiers in two separate incidents.
The latest strikes come as the ceasefire faces renewed testing amid ongoing violence, underscoring the fragility of a pause in hostilities and the difficulties of delivering relief to civilians on the ground.
