India Secures BrahMos Missile Deals with Vietnam & Indonesia! 🚀
Big news for India's defense industry! Vietnam has signed a BrahMos missile deal, and Indonesia is close. Discover how India is strengthening ties with ASEAN nations and bolstering regional security!
New Delhi has achieved a significant milestone in its defense diplomacy, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirming that a BrahMos missile deal with Vietnam has already been signed. Additionally, a similar pact with Indonesia is in its final stages, marking a major boost for India's defense exports and strategic partnerships in Southeast Asia.
Singh made these crucial announcements on Saturday (May 30, 2026), while attending the prestigious Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. Responding to queries about potential buyers for the advanced missile system, he revealed that while the Vietnam deal was signed "probably not publicly announced," it is now official. Regarding Indonesia, he stated, "My understanding is that with both Indonesia and with Vietnam, the deal is in the final stages that in fact, for Vietnam, I understand that it has already been signed, probably not publicly announced, but it's already been signed."
These developments follow previous reports, with Indonesia having confirmed an agreement to procure the BrahMos system in March. Earlier in May, there were strong indications that Vietnam was also nearing a deal. These nations join the Philippines, which became the first foreign buyer of the BrahMos missile system in 2022, securing a contract worth nearly $375 million. The Philippines envoy had previously hailed the BrahMos missiles as a 'game changer' for regional security.
While the exact financial details of the Vietnam and Indonesia deals have not been officially disclosed, these agreements underscore a broader strategic shift. Defence Secretary Singh emphasized India's commitment to sharing advanced defense technologies with trusted partners. He explained that nations typically sell sophisticated weapons to countries they consider friendly, stating, "Obviously you share technology with people you trust."
India's strong commitment to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was also highlighted, with Singh reiterating, "we treat all of you as “friendly foreign countries” with whom we can share advanced defence technologies." This move not only strengthens India's role as a reliable defense supplier but also solidifies its strategic ties with key ASEAN member states, enhancing regional stability and cooperation.
