Imran Khan's Sons Fear He Won't Survive Prison Amid Health Worries

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's health is rapidly deteriorating in solitary confinement, leading his UK-based sons, Sulaiman Khan and Kasim Khan, to express serious concerns that he might not survive his time in prison. This comes amidst allegations that authorities are defying Supreme Court directives regarding his medical care and denying his family access.
According to his sons, Khan, 73, was ordered by the Supreme Court to be examined at a private hospital, Shifa Hospital in Islamabad. However, he was reportedly taken to a state-run facility, the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), where he received only a one-hour check-up before being declared medically fit and returned to Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.
At this point it's looking more likely than not that he won't be able to survive his stay in prison,
Kasim Khan stated during an online press conference, emphasizing his father's "desperate need" for prolonged medical attention.
The jailed leader's sons also revealed that they have been denied visas to visit Pakistan and have not been allowed to speak to their father since March of this year. Their last meeting with him was in November 2022. "Any chance to see him we would take in a heartbeat.
We would love to come to Pakistan, but it is getting bleaker.
We would love to see father but our visas have been denied, stalled and rejected," Kasim Khan lamented.
The Supreme Court had specifically directed Adiala prison authorities on August 18 to transfer Khan to Shifa Hospital for an independent medical panel evaluation. However, he was taken to the state-run IMS on August 20. While his sister, Uzma Khan, who was present during the examination, confirmed his stability, she also reported that the former prime minister repeatedly claimed he was being subjected to torture in prison.
International concerns are mounting, with various figures, including former international cricketers, appealing for proper medical treatment and improved conditions for Imran Khan, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
