Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Amman for a two-day visit to Jordan, the first leg of his four-day, three-nation tour. The trip marks the 75th anniversary of India-Jordan diplomatic relations and sets the stage for high-level talks aimed at deepening bilateral ties. Modi is expected to meet King Abdullah II in a one-on-one meeting followed by delegation-level discussions, with an India-Jordan business event on the agenda to boost commerce and investment.
At the Al-Husseiniya Palace in western Amman, Modi was welcomed with ceremony, highlighting the warmth of bilateral ties. One key focus area is expanding trade and collaboration in sectors such as fertilisers, digital technology, and infrastructure, alongside continued people-to-people exchanges that fuel ties between the two nations. Modi’s visit also emphasizes regional stability and a shared stance against terrorism, underscoring the two countries' converging perspectives on security and development.
During the visit, Modi is slated to interact with the Indian diaspora and, with the Crown Prince, may visit Petra, the historic city linked to India’s ancient trade networks, weather permitting. Jordan has emerged as a strong partner for India in the region, with trade already substantial and fertiliser supplies playing a significant role in economic cooperation. The two sides are expected to explore winding pathways to expand cooperation, including in fertilisers, digital tech, and infrastructure, reinforcing a long-standing partnership that began decades ago.
This bilateral engagement comes as Modi’s wider regional outreach continues, signaling India’s intent to balance diplomacy with expanding economic opportunities across the Middle East and Africa, while reaffirming mutual commitments to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
