CBSE Unveils Hybrid Evaluation for West Asia Class 12 Exams Cancelled
CBSE will declare West Asia Class 12 results using a hybrid method blending exam scores with school assessments after cancellations amid regional tensions.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a hybrid assessment method for Class 12 students in West Asia after exams were cancelled amid regional disruptions. Nearly 23,000 students across seven West Asian countries enrolled in over 200 CBSE-affiliated schools will have their results determined through a formula-based evaluation that blends actual exam performance with school-based assessments. The decision follows the cancellation of the remaining board examinations scheduled after select papers were held between February 17 and 28, in the wake of the ongoing Iran–US–Israel conflict.
Under the hybrid scheme, marks will be derived using a structured approach. In subjects where examinations were conducted, actual performance in the examination may be taken into account for declaration of results. For the remaining subjects, marks will be drawn from school assessments, including the best of the three marks obtained in quarterly, half-yearly and pre-board examinations.
For subjects with theory components valued at 80 or 70 marks, the best of three scores from periodic tests will be considered, while for subjects with 60, 50 or 30 marks, performance in the final pre-board examination will be used. Internal assessment and practical components, described as a yearlong exercise, will remain unchanged, as those marks have already been submitted by schools.
The board stressed that once marks are uploaded to the CBSE portal, they will not be altered, ensuring timely declaration of results along with other Class 12 students. The arrangement is aimed at preventing hardship in admissions and helping students transition to higher education despite the disruptions.
This approach reflects CBSE’s effort to balance fairness with practicality, recognizing the need for a transparent and expeditious process given the extraordinary circumstances affecting West Asia.
