The medical community is once again gripped by uncertainty as NEET-PG aspirants face mounting anxiety over registration delays for the August 30 examination. This comes amidst the recent cancellation of NEET-UG due to paper leaks, casting a long shadow of doubt and apprehension over the entire medical entrance system.
For many NEET-PG hopefuls, the current situation is a painful reminder of the past two years, when the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for postgraduates (NEET-PG), conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), was repeatedly postponed. In 2024, the exam was rescheduled three times, with one postponement occurring just hours before the scheduled date. The 2025 exam also saw a delay. These experiences have left a deep scar on students, many of whom have already invested years in preparation.
Prateek, an MBBS graduate from Kyrgyzstan, shared his ordeal. He recounted the shock of having the 2024 exam postponed at midnight, just hours before it was to begin. His journey has been further complicated by bureaucratic hurdles; after completing his internship in May 2024, he spent two years making repeated visits from Srikakulam to the A.P. Medical Council (APMC) in Vijayawada to secure his permanent registration. Without it, foreign medical graduates like him cannot practice or pursue further studies in India. He finally received his registration in May 2026, two years after his internship.
"While the previous two attempts were only for practice, I have pinned all hopes on the upcoming exam," Prateek expressed, highlighting the immense pressure. He emphasized that the two years lost due to APMC's delays were already significant, and he cannot afford any further setbacks. The ongoing uncertainty surrounding NEET-PG registration, compounded by the NEET-UG cancellation, is exacerbating the stress for thousands of aspiring postgraduates like him.
Another student, Bhushan from Vijayawada, currently preparing in Hyderabad, admitted that his anxiety has significantly increased following the recent reports and cancellations. The emotional and financial toll on these students, who have dedicated years to their medical education and dreams, is immense. The repeated delays and controversies threaten to derail their careers and mental well-being, underscoring the urgent need for stability and clear communication from the examination authorities.
