IMD forecasts isolated to scattered rain and gusty winds for Delhi and nearby regions this week, with cloud cover persisting into early April.
Delhi woke to a cooler daytime as rain lashed parts of the city on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department says the spell is part of a broader north Indian weather system and could linger through the week, bringing clouds, showers and brief cool spells.
IMD's latest forecast shows isolated to scattered rainfall activity likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, with similar spells in west Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan. The pattern is expected to persist for the next few days, with rain and thunderstorms possible in the evenings.
Temperatures have been fluctuating, with maximums sliding by 1-2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, while minimums stayed largely steady. Day temperatures hovered around 33-34°C recently, while nights ranged from 18-20°C, keeping overall weather warm but not extreme.
Forecasters warn of light rain with thunderstorm and gusty winds, reaching up to 40 kmph, during Tuesday evening and night, and again around April 3-4 as systems move through the region.
At times an orange alert has been in place for rain, thunderstorm and lightning, prompting authorities to advise caution and for residents to avoid exposed areas and secure loose items.
The north-west corridor, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh and western Rajasthan, can expect wind gusts of 30-50 kmph and occasional squalls in coming days.
With the forecast hinging on shifting systems, officials urge residents to stay updated on alerts and plan travel accordingly.
