Four engineering students were abducted and robbed near Bengaluru after a biryani outing; one suspect has been arrested as investigators hunt others.
Four engineering students from a private college in Bagalur were returning from a biryani outing when the incident unfolded on December 21, in the outskirts of Bengaluru. Early in the morning, around 5:30 a.m., the students were traveling on two-wheelers from a popular eatery in Hoskote when a gang intercepted them near a toll plaza. The group assaulted the students, seized their mobile phones and bikes, and took them to a shed near Medahalli where they were held captive and robbed. The attackers allegedly withdrew ₹ 40,000 in cash and transferred ₹ 1.10 lakh from the victims’ bank accounts, though the students later managed to recover their vehicles. The total loss is reported as ₹ 1.5 lakh.
A case has been registered at Avalahalli police station under sections related to kidnapping and dacoity. One of the accused has been arrested, and efforts are on to nab the remaining suspects. The students’ families and college authorities have been notified as investigation teams review CCTV footage and financial transactions to identify the other members of the gang and recover any remaining assets. The incident highlights safety concerns for students traveling in the early hours, especially after social outings, and authorities say they are tightening patrols in the area while pursuing leads to bring all culprits to justice.
