India Joins US-led Pax Silica, Strengthening AI and Tech Ties
India joins the US-led Pax Silica coalition, signaling a stronger tech partnership focused on AI, critical minerals, and resilient supply chains.
India has formally joined Pax Silica, a US-led coalition focused on artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and resilient technology supply chains, with the agreement signed at the AI Impact Summit. The ceremony was attended by key Indian and US tech and policy officials, emphasizing a shared agenda to accelerate collaboration in AI innovation and semiconductor manufacturing. The move signals a clear intent to deepen cooperation at a time when AI and advanced manufacturing are reshaping global economics and geopolitics.
US Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Jacob Helberg welcomed India’s entry, highlighting concerns about “massively over-concentrated” supply chains for critical minerals and the risks of economic coercion and blackmail. Helberg noted that rare earth magnets and other critical components are pivotal across a range of industries, from aerospace to consumer electronics, and warned that diversification and trusted partnerships are essential for global stability.
Goran (S. Gor), a senior US official and adviser to the President, stressed that “Policies that will reinforce US-India tech cooperation will power AI innovation and adoption for years to come. We can share trusted AI technology with the world and especially with partners like India.” He also underscored that “India brings strength. Peace doesn’t come from hoping adversaries will play fair. Peace comes through strength,” emphasizing sovereignty and robust borders as central to the Pax Silica framework. The message, echoed by others at the summit, was that stronger ties will translate into practical gains for both nations’ tech ecosystems.
“That strength, that sovereignty is exactly what Pax Silica amplifies. Because here’s the truth: strength multiplies when it’s connected.” The pact’s formal signing at the AI Impact Summit aligns with broader efforts to bolster electronics and semiconductor industries in India while advancing AI cooperation, setting the stage for deeper collaboration on standards, data governance, and supply-chain resilience.
Observers note that the move comes amid ongoing efforts to finalise a proposed bilateral trade deal and to push ahead with other initiatives to bolster ties after a period of strategic tension. If implemented effectively, Pax Silica could accelerate India’s AI deployment, expand access to trusted technologies, and invigorate manufacturing pipelines across both countries.
