Mohali woke up to a chilling warning on Tuesday as an email threatened to blow up Fortis Hospital Mohali and several nearby schools. While authorities treat the message with utmost seriousness, officials say many such threats in the past have turned out to be hoaxes, though every lead is being checked thoroughly.
Police cordoned off sensitive zones, evacuated the affected schools, and dispatched bomb disposal squads and dog teams to the hospital campus to conduct thorough checks. The email reportedly named a group calling itself the Khalistan National Army, prompting a high-alert response across the city.
Security was especially tight because Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann is admitted at Fortis Hospital. In the hospital and surrounding areas, non-essential services were paused while checks continued, and essential services remained functional to avoid disruption to patient care.
Last week, Mohali saw similar threats that turned out to be hoaxes; officials said such incidents have been recurring, and investigations to identify the perpetrators are ongoing. Authorities urged the public to remain calm and report anything suspicious while security agencies comb through the evidence.
