Jenna Dewan Defends DWTS Casting: "Ballroom Is a Brand New Technique!"

“Dancing With the Stars” Season 35 is already stirring up a storm, and much of the chatter revolves around the casting of acclaimed dancer and actress Jenna Dewan. After the celebrity lineup was revealed on Wednesday morning, many fans took to social media, voicing concerns that Dewan's extensive dance background gives her an unfair edge.

She's famously known for her role in the dance movie "Step Up" and previously toured as a backup dancer for none other than Janet Jackson.

However, Dewan is hitting back at the criticism, clarifying that her professional experience doesn't automatically translate to ballroom success.

In a candid interview, she emphatically stated, "I do not know how to ballroom dance." She explained that while her prior training is helpful for learning choreography and performing, ballroom dancing is "a new technique, brand new technique."

"Let's be clear. It's two different languages," Dewan highlighted, emphasizing the distinct differences between her style of dance and the intricate world of ballroom. She even suggested that her established dance habits might be a hurdle, requiring a "certain sense of unlearning." This shift, she admits, almost "threw me off initially" because she has to adapt to a style that "feels really foreign."

Far from being an advantage, Dewan shared that her background actually makes her "a little more nervous" for the competition. She emphasized that contestants aren't

giving me a style that I've done, I can go out there and do that.

It appears Dewan sees this as a genuine challenge, treating her participation in DWTS as a journey into an entirely new dance world.
