DMK Leaders Face Legal Action Over "Derogatory Remarks" Against TN CM

Chennai, Three prominent leaders from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have found themselves in legal trouble following alleged derogatory remarks made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Law Minister C.T. Nirmal Kumar.

Cases have been registered against DMK MP A. Raja and MLAs P.K. Sekarbabu and Vasantham K.

The Greater Chennai Police initiated action against DMK deputy general secretary and Nilgiris MP A. Raja. This came after a complaint from Karthik, who alleged that the MP made offensive comments targeting Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.

Nirmal Kumar during a protest organized by the DMK. The protest, held in Saidapet on Saturday, September 12, was aimed at condemning Chief Minister Vijay's speech in the Assembly from September 7. The charges against Mr.

Raja are significant, including sections for using obscene language, making defamatory remarks to disturb public peace, inciting violence based on religion, race, or language, and acts disrupting public order.

Separately, Harbour MLA and former Minister P.K. Sekarbabu has also been booked by the North Beach police in Chennai. The case against him stems from allegedly addressing the Chief Minister in a derogatory manner during the same wave of protests.

Further south, in Kallakurichi, police have registered a case against DMK's Rishivandhiyam MLA, Vasantham K.

Karthikeyan. He faces charges under four sections for making similar derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Vijay during the protest held on Saturday.

This action followed a complaint lodged by a TVK functionary.

These legal proceedings highlight escalating political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with the ruling party taking strong exception to the language used by opposition leaders during public demonstrations.
