Fire Breaks Out on Tata Nagar-Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh; 1 Dead
A blaze damaged two AC coaches on the Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh, prompting evacuation and a delayed arrival as authorities investigate the cause.
A fire broke out on two air-conditioned coaches of the Tata Nagar-Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh early Monday, with thick smoke filling the B1 and M2 coaches and triggering an emergency halt near Yelamanchili.
Loco pilots first spotted the fire near a railway point close to Yelamanchili. Railway sources say the blaze was likely caused by overheating brakes in the B1 AC coach, and firefighters arrived to contain the flames while passengers were evacuated.
Two coaches were completely charred, and the train was detached and rearranged with the remaining coaches. It later resumed its journey and reached Anakapalli about four hours behind schedule, with around 150 passengers evacuated by the fire services.
A passenger, identified as 70-year-old Chandrasekhar Sundar, died from burns sustained in the fire. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister commended the fire department for evacuating passengers and extended condolences. An investigation into the blaze's cause has been ordered.
