Nitish Kumar Unveils Bihar Cabinet: BJP Secures 14 Ministries

Patna hosted a high-profile swearing-in ceremony as Nitish Kumar began his record tenth term as Bihar’s chief minister. In a carefully choreographed cabinet unveiling, Kumar kept hold of the General Administration, Cabinet Secretariat, and Vigilance portfolios, while allocating the remaining departments to NDA partners in what observers called a balanced power-sharing arrangement.
The deputy chief ministers, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both from the BJP, took oaths alongside Kumar. Chaudhary will oversee the Home portfolio, a key assignment, while Sinha is slated to head Revenue and Land Reforms, and Mines and Geology. A second BJP minister, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, was assigned multiple portfolios—Water Resources; Commercial Taxes; Information and Public Relations; and Parliamentary Affairs—illustrating the party’s broad footprint in the new line-up.
Other notable allocations include Bijendra Prasad Yadav with Energy, Planning and Development, Food and Consumer Protection, Weights and Measures, and Commercial Tax (Excise); Shravan Kumar on Rural Development and PHED; Mangal Pandey in Health and Law; Dr Hetal Kumari Jayswal in Industries; Ashok Choudhary in Rural Works; Leshi Singh in Food and Consumer Protection; Nitin Nabin in Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing; Madan Sahni in Social Welfare; Satya Kumar Yadav in Agriculture; Amrendra Pratap Shahi in Minority Welfare; Sunil Kumar in Water Resources; Md Jama Khan in Minority Welfare; Sanjay Singh ‘Tiger’ in Labour Resources; and Arun S. Completing the roster, 24 ministers were sworn in, representing eight from JD(U), 14 from BJP, two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
The ceremony underscored Bihar’s NDA-led governance after the assembly polls, with the lineup signaling continuity for Nitish Kumar’s leadership and a clear distribution of portfolios across alliance partners. The new cabinet is expected to chart the coming policy priorities across energy, development, governance, and social welfare as Bihar moves forward under Kumar’s tenth term.
