NIA Probes Pakistan-backed Terror Module Targeting Delhi, Punjab

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency has launched a probe into a Pakistan-backed conspiracy to smuggle arms and explosives into India to carry out blasts in Delhi, Punjab and other areas. The agency has registered cases under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Arms Act on directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.\n\nOfficials say the ISI operative Jasvir Chaudhary was coordinating the module and had been sending arms and improvised explosive devices for the plan across the Indo-Pak border using drones in February this year. The investigation gained traction when Punjab police’s State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar arrested Shubham Kumar, a resident of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, and recovered an IED in a metallic case with a remote, along with a foreign-made pistol and ammunition. The consignment was dropped from across the border using a drone.\n\nAuthorities say the alleged Pakistani operative and his Indian associates had secured arms and IEDs to execute explosions in Delhi, Punjab and other parts of the country, and the search is on for other module members and to confirm the real identity of Jasvir Chaudhary. The government had unveiled Prahaar, its first comprehensive national counterterrorism policy and strategy, aiming to deny terrorists access to funds, weapons and safe havens, underscoring a broader push to curb cross-border terror networks.
