Delhi woke to a day of rapid weather shifts. A dust storm kicked off the morning, sending visibility down and lifting pollution levels as winds surpassed 20 km/h across parts of the city. The air quality climbed to a poor 266 on the AQI scale, up from the previous day’s 194, while the day’s temperatures showed the usual Delhi contrast—minimum around 22.4°C and a daytime high of 33.7°C.
As morning winds ticked down, intermittent dust swirling gave way to a cloudier sky and a cooler feel in the later afternoon. By about 3-4pm, wind speeds eased and the dusty haze began clearing in some pockets, signaling a temporary break from the heat and dust.
In the evening, the pattern swung again. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with speeds of 40-50 km/h or faster possible. Light rainfall began around 5pm in isolated pockets and gradually spread, intensifying into moderate showers in several areas as night fell.
Officials said the rapidly changing conditions were driven by an active western disturbance and associated cyclonic circulations influencing northwest India. Forecasters warned that spells of rain over Delhi-NCR are likely to continue through the weekend, keeping temperatures cooler and the air quality volatile.
Residents watched the sky and adjusted plans accordingly. The day underscored how quickly weather can shift in this region, reminding people to be prepared for both dust and rain, and to monitor air quality when stepping outdoors. With the weekend forecast hinting at unsettled conditions, authorities urged caution for outdoor workers, cyclists and those prone to respiratory issues.
