Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently led the 12th International Yoga Day (IYD) celebrations in Kolkata, emphasizing yoga's profound ability to connect the world with India and foster global harmony. The grand event, held at Kolkata's iconic Red Road, saw the Prime Minister articulate his vision for yoga as a tool not just for personal well-being but for the collective future of humanity.
Addressing the gathering, which included West Bengal governor RN Ravi, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, and Union minister of state for Ayush Prataprao Yadav, PM Modi highlighted that June 21, the longest day in many parts of the world, has become a day of global celebration thanks to yoga. He emphasized how this ancient Indian practice serves as a unifying force, bringing diverse communities together across borders.
This year's theme, "Yoga for Healthy Aging," resonated deeply with the Prime Minister's message. Modi stressed that age should not diminish human potential and that yoga can be instrumental in aspiring for continued growth. He encouraged individuals to aim for greater energy at 50 than at 30, and increased resistance to lifestyle diseases at 70 compared to 50, showcasing yoga's practical benefits in promoting longevity and vitality. President Droupadi Murmu also echoed these sentiments, calling yoga an "invaluable gift of India's cultural heritage to the world."
Against a backdrop of global conflicts, PM Modi's remarks positioned yoga beyond mere physical exercise, presenting it as a pathway to peace and harmony across societies. His participation in the yoga session in Kolkata, following an overnight stay at Lok Bhawan, underscored the nation's commitment to promoting this holistic practice. The event served as a powerful reminder of yoga's enduring relevance and its potential to shape a healthier, more connected world.
