IMF Set to Raise India’s GDP Growth Outlook After Strong Q3 Performance
IMF hints a potential upgrade to India's 2025–26 growth outlook in its Article IV staff report, noting robust domestic demand and stronger Q3, confirming India as a key engine in the global economy.
India is still a major contributor to the expansion of the world economy, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has hinted that it may increase its growth estimate for the nation in its next report.
Consumption-Driven Growth
According to Julie Kozack, an IMF spokesperson, India has become a significant global economic growth engine. The IMF had predicted India's growth at 6.6% for the 2025–2026 fiscal year in its previous Article IV staff report, primarily due to robust domestic consumption. India's growth in the third quarter, however, was better than anticipated. The likelihood of an upward revision in the IMF's outlook has increased as a result.
According to International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesperson Julie Kozack,

"India is a key growth engine for the global economy. In our Article IV staff report, we had projected India’s growth for fiscal year 2025–26 at 6.6%, driven by strong consumption. Since then, third-quarter growth has come in stronger than expected, making an upward revision to our forecast likely..."
Trusts In The Fundamentals
The IMF's latest remarks underscore its continued confidence in India's economic fundamentals. Growth is thought to be supported by strong consumer demand, consistent investment activity, and stable policy. India's status as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world could be further strengthened by the upcoming WEO update, which is currently being closely watched.
Global Growth Outline
As the effects of US tariffs proved to be less severe than anticipated, the IMF slightly increased its 2025 global GDP growth forecast to 3.2% in October, up from 3.0% previously. The 3.1% global growth forecast for 2026 was maintained. India's impressive performance continues to provide the world economy with a significant boost, despite modest global growth.
