Google Unveils Gemini Intelligence on Android and the New Googlebook

With Google I/O 2026 on the horizon, Google is rolling out Gemini Intelligence on Android, a new AI-enabled suite designed to automate everyday tasks and make its smartphones more capable. The company says Gemini will help with travel research, shopping across apps, and even smarter web browsing in Chrome. It can fill out forms with one tap, create widgets that reflect your hobbies, and generate coherent multi-language transcripts through a feature called Rambler. The rollout will happen in phases: the newest Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 will get Gemini Intelligence this summer, followed by Android watches, AI-enabled cars, glasses, and laptops later this year.

Google stresses that privacy and user control are built-in. Gemini only acts on command, and it stops when the task is complete. Rambler is designed to convert voice to text in real time without storing audio. More than that, Google says you can speak naturally, and Rambler will pull out the important parts and assemble a concise message. The company demonstrated how Rambler shows clearly when it's actively transcribing.

Alongside Gemini Intelligence, Google introduced Googlebook—the first laptop designed from the ground up for Gemini. The device is engineered to work seamlessly with Android devices and includes AI-focused features such as the Magic Pointer, developed in collaboration with the DeepMind team.

As part of the broader push, Google notes that AI is a potential gold mine for misuse, but the firm frames Gemini as a tool to boost productivity while defending user privacy. In a note tied to its workforce, about 600 Google staff urged the CEO to reject a classified military AI contract, underscoring ongoing debates about how AI should be deployed.

These updates come as tech giants lean into AI automation just ahead of I/O 2026, signaling a new era of cross-device AI that tries to balance convenience with control.
