Authorities say a Bangladesh-linked terror module, backed by ISI, planned attacks on Delhi’s Red Fort and major temples. Eight arrests span Tamil Nadu and West Bengal as investigations widen.
New Delhi — Eight suspects have been nabbed for allegedly plotting a major terror conspiracy in Delhi at the behest of Pakistan's ISI and Bangladesh-based extremist outfits. Six of the suspects were arrested from different parts of Tamil Nadu and will be brought to Delhi for interrogation. Some of the detained individuals are Bangladeshi nationals. Two others were picked up earlier in follow-up actions linked to the same case.
Security agencies had on Saturday issued an alert after intelligence suggested that Lashkar-e-Taiba could be planning an IED-based attack and had kept prominent religious places in India on its target list. The operation came on the heels of the deadly car explosion near the historic Red Fort in November 2025, which killed at least 13 people and injured more than 20 others.
During searches, investigators recovered dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards which are being analyzed to map the network and possible foreign links. Preliminary investigations suggest the group was in touch with handlers linked to Pakistan's ISI and certain Bangladesh-based outfits. Central agencies are assisting in the probe, reinforcing the cross-border links that security officials say could pose a nationwide threat.
The crackdown points to a Bangladesh-based handler directing a multi-state module with ties to Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Delhi, investigators said. Officials emphasize that the operation aimed to thwart a potential attack on Delhi's Red Fort and other major sites, highlighting the importance of coordinated security efforts across states.
