Germany Blames Russia for Leipzig Airport Drone Attack; Moscow Denies

Germany has officially accused Russia of being responsible for a failed drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport last month. The incident involved an explosive-laden drone discovered near Ukrainian cargo planes on August 4, prompting a strong reaction from Berlin.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated, "We assume that Germany is the target of further hybrid attacks by Russia." This assertion signals a significant escalation in tensions between the two nations following the discovery of the drone.

In response to the alleged attack, Germany has announced a series of retaliatory measures.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul confirmed that the Russian general consulate in Bonn would be closed by September 18. Furthermore, the lease for the Russian cultural center, known as the Russian House, in Berlin will also be canceled.

Moscow has vehemently denied the allegations, stating that Germany has not provided any concrete evidence to support its claims.

This denial sets the stage for a diplomatic standoff as Germany proceeds with its punitive actions, indicating a firm stance against what it perceives as Russian aggression.
