Diana's Iconic 'Revenge Dress' Returns for Global Tour & Auction!

The fashion world is abuzz as Princess Diana's iconic “Revenge Dress” makes a stunning comeback, set to be auctioned by Sotheby's this December. More than just a garment, this little black dress carries immense cultural weight and a powerful story of quiet defiance that captivated the world. The dress, designed by Greek designer Christina Stambolian, shot to fame on June 29, 1994.

On that evening, Diana emerged from her car, radiant and poised, to attend a fundraising dinner at the Serpentine Gallery.

Her appearance was meticulously timed: it was just hours before Prince Charles publicly confessed his affair.

The slinky, off-the-shoulder black silk dress, which broke royal protocol for its daring style and color, was instantly dubbed the "Revenge Dress" by the media, symbolizing Diana's resilience and reclaiming her narrative amidst personal turmoil. This historic piece was last seen at auction in June 1997, when Diana herself sold it as part of a collection of 79 dresses to raise funds for cancer and AIDS charities, causes she passionately supported.

After that sale, the dress largely receded from public view for nearly three decades, occasionally appearing at charitable fundraising events in Scotland. Now, the dress is embarking on a world tour, allowing a new generation to witness its legacy firsthand. Exhibitions will take place at Sotheby's galleries, starting in London from September 18 to 24, then moving to Hong Kong and Geneva, before its final stop in New York on December 2.

The grand finale will be its auction in New York on December 9. It's estimated to fetch between $150,000 and $300,000, although its unparalleled legacy could easily push that figure higher.
