Sensex Soars 787 Points as Nifty Climbs Past 22,900 in Broad Rally
Benchmark indices rebound with heavyweight gains, lifting investor wealth by over Rs 5 lakh crore in a single session.
Indian equity benchmarks rebounded sharply after a cautious start, as value buying and easing geopolitical tensions lifted sentiment. The Sensex jumped 787.30 points, or 1.07%, to close at 74,106.85, while the Nifty rose 255.15 points, or 1.12%, to settle at 22,968.25.
A broad rally was supported by gains in heavyweight names such as HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, Titan, Trent, SBI, TCS, Infosys, NTPC, and UltraTech Cement, helping the benchmarks move into positive territory after a weak start.
Investors saw the rally boost overall market wealth by more than Rs 5 lakh crore in a single session, with the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies rising to Rs 427.43 lakh crore from Rs 422.37 lakh crore in the previous session.
On the sector front, buying interest was strongest in banking, financials, metals, automobiles, IT, realty and consumer durables stocks, while energy and media shares ended lower. The broader market outperformed, with Nifty Midcap 100 up 1.52% and Nifty Smallcap 100 up 1.29%.
Analysts described the move as value buying that could extend if crude prices remained soft and global tensions eased, though overall risk appetite remained cautious amid persistent inflows and macro uncertainties.
