A 51-year-old Indian-origin man, Vijay Kumar, has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Lawrenceville, Georgia, that killed four adults early Friday amid a family dispute. The Gwinnett County incident occurred after an argument at the couple's home and involved a trip to a relatives’ residence on Brook Ivy Court, with one of the couple’s children present during the events.
Police say the victims are Kumar's wife Meemu Dogra, 43, along with Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. Investigators described a frightening scene in which three children were inside the home when the shooting began. The children reportedly hid in a closet as authorities were alerted to the violence and arrived at the scene in the early hours of Friday. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, one count of cruelty to children in the first degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, according to local police.
The shooting drew attention from officials and members of the Indian community. The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed grief over the tragedy, confirming the suspect’s arrest and promising assistance to the bereaved families.
