Patrick Clancy Breaks Silence on Tragedy & Forgiveness 🙏
In a raw "60 Minutes" interview, Patrick Clancy opens up about the devastating loss of his children, battling online hate, and his path to forgiveness and advocacy for mental health awareness. #MentalHealthAwareness
Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, has spoken publicly for the first time in a televised interview since the tragic deaths of their three children in 2023. His candid conversation on "60 Minutes" shed light on the devastating events, his personal struggles, and his surprising path to forgiveness.
The interview aired as Massachusetts prosecutors consider whether to retry Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of strangling their children, Cora (five), Dawson (three), and eight-month-old Callan, before attempting to take her own life. A judge declared a mistrial in September after a jury remained deadlocked, with most jurors believing Lindsay suffered from postpartum psychosis, while one juror sided with prosecutors, arguing she was fully aware of her actions.
Patrick Clancy addressed the online criticism and conspiracy theories that have emerged, some blaming him for not doing enough to support his ex-wife. He called these claims "deeply harmful to the legacy of my children" and a "huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health." He emphasized the pain these narratives have caused him and others, expressing frustration that "lie after lie after lie" could lead people to believe false information.
He recounted witnessing Lindsay's struggles with sleep deprivation and anxiety in late 2022, after their youngest son Callan was born. Admitting he "didn't know how to manage a postpartum illness" at the time, he reflected on the deceptive nature of mental illness. Lindsay's condition worsened, leading to a stay at McLean psychiatric hospital on New Year's Eve.
Tragically, the children were allegedly strangled just 17 days after her release.
In a heartbreaking moment, Patrick described hoping for one of his children to survive. "Just gimme one," he recalled thinking, promising to raise that child and tell them about their siblings.
Callan, his youngest, later died in the hospital. Despite the unimaginable loss, Patrick Clancy has attributed the killings to his ex-wife's mental illness and has publicly forgiven her, rejecting sensational media labels like "killer mom." He stated, "I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time. And I live with the outcome.
I live with it every day.
Both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy have since filed medical malpractice lawsuits against the healthcare providers involved in her care, with Lindsay alleging negligence and Patrick alleging wrongful death. Patrick revealed that his life
came to a screeching halt" and he grappled with suicidal thoughts.
He eventually moved to New York City for anonymity, where he found a way to grieve openly, cherishing his children's belongings. He has since met his second wife, Rachel Danis, through a running club. Seeking professional help from Postpartum Support International also aided his healing process.
Rachel, who joined him for parts of the interview, expressed her desire to honor his children and support his grief. The interview serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of perinatal mental health issues and the complex journey of grief and forgiveness.
