Lionel Richie Undergoes Heart Procedure; Cancels Shows, 'Doing Great'!
Music icon Lionel Richie is recovering well after a successful AFib procedure! Though three shows are canceled, his team confirms he's 'doing great' and will be back on stage soon. Get the full details.
Music legend Lionel Richie has successfully undergone a common procedure for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) this week, with his representatives confirming he is "doing great" and will be back on stage in the near future. The news comes after the singer was hospitalized, leading to the cancellation of three upcoming concert dates with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Richie's representative released a statement, explaining that the procedure for AFib went "perfectly" according to doctors. While the prognosis is overwhelmingly positive, the celebrated artist will be taking some time off to recover. This means fans will miss out on his scheduled performances in San Francisco, Chicago, and Columbus, Ohio, which were set for late September and early October.
However, his highly anticipated three-night stand in Las Vegas, beginning October 14, is currently still on as planned.
Atrial Fibrillation is a condition characterized by an irregular and often very fast heartbeat.
The procedure Richie underwent typically involves using heat, cold, or high-energy electric pulses to create tiny scars in the heart. These scars help block faulty electrical signals that cause AFib, allowing the heart to return to a normal rhythm.
This isn't the first time Richie's health has made headlines recently. Earlier this year, he experienced dizziness during a show in Minneapolis, resulting in two canceled dates, though he quickly returned to the stage. In late August, he also checked himself into a hospital "out of caution" after a St.
Louis performance for cardiac tests, and was subsequently reported to have returned home to Los Angeles in good health.
Through these instances, Richie has consistently reassured his fans of his well-being, sharing gratitude for their support.
