Engine Fire Forces Swiss Flight to Abort Takeoff in Delhi

A SWISS International Air Lines Airbus A330-300 aborted its takeoff at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi after engine number one failed during the takeoff roll at about 104 knots. The crew stopped the takeoff and evacuated everyone on board using the aircraft’s emergency slides.
There were roughly 232 people on board, including several infants, when the decision to evacuate was made and the aircraft was evacuated on the runway.
Six passengers were hospitalized or undergoing medical evaluation after the incident. Swiss technical specialists are expected to travel to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and determine the next steps.
The Zurich-bound flight, operating from Delhi, was halted as safety checks were conducted. No fatalities have been reported. Investigations into the engine failure and evacuation procedures are ongoing, with authorities reviewing the incident to ensure safety protocols were followed.
