Close Call: Air India & IndiGo Flights Face Off at Ahmedabad Airport

A potentially serious incident was averted at Ahmedabad Airport on Wednesday evening when an Air India flight and an IndiGo aircraft came face-to-face on the taxiway. The event, which occurred around 8 PM, saw the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Air India plane (flight AI2493) inadvertently veer off its designated path, leading to a close encounter with an IndiGo flight (6E 5160) preparing for departure to Mumbai.

The Air India aircraft was reportedly instructed to taxi to Stand 34L via taxiways C and G but instead took a wrong turn. This error placed it directly in the path of the incoming IndiGo flight. However, aviation authorities and both airlines confirmed that a considerable and safe distance was maintained between the two planes, preventing any direct collision or immediate danger.

Following the incident, Air India issued a statement admitting that its flight AI2493 had "inadvertently taken a wrong turn during taxiing." The airline assured that there was "no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew" during the event. The aircraft was subsequently towed back to its parking bay, and an internal investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances that led to the navigation error.

IndiGo also released a statement, confirming the brief delay of its flight 6E 5160 due to "an aircraft of another airline inadvertently took an incorrect turn and came in the way of our aircraft." They reiterated that both aircraft halted at a safe distance from each other and that their flight later departed and landed safely. The airline confirmed that all established protocols were followed, and relevant authorities were immediately informed, emphasizing their commitment to passenger safety and security.
