Tata Power's Bold Move: 10 GW Solar Plant & Bhutan Hydro Bet
Tata Power unveils two mega expansion bets: a 10 GW solar wafer plant and a 40% stake in Bhutan's Dorjilung hydro project, as Q2 profits rise and renewables push accelerates.
Tata Power has rolled out two bold announcements after posting its Q2 FY26 results. The company reported a 14% year-on-year profit rise to ₹1,245 crore, with revenue up 3% to ₹15,700 crore and EBITDA growth of 6%. Sinha outlined plans to build India’s largest 10 GW solar wafer and ingot manufacturing plant, aiming to complete the solar value chain under the “Make in India” mission.
In another big move, Tata Power announced its investment in Bhutan's Dorjilung Hydro Project—planning to acquire a 40% stake in a new SPV for ₹1,572 crore for the 1,125 MW project.
Sinha also highlighted strong performance from Odisha Discoms and rooftop solar, with renewable capacity poised to touch 10 GW by FY27. The announcements signal Tata Power’s push to become a broader renewables player, expanding from project execution into large-scale manufacturing and overseas hydropower, aligned with domestic manufacturing goals and long-term energy transition aims.
