Teen Footballer Nolan Wells Found Dead: Family Hires Ben Crump for Answers
The heartbroken family of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, found dead after a boat trip, has enlisted civil rights attorney Ben Crump to demand transparency and justice. Follow the ongoing investigation.
The family of Nolan Xavier Wells, an 18-year-old college football player, is seeking answers after his body was discovered following a disappearance during a Fourth of July boat trip. Wells, a promising wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College, was found dead on Monday in waters off Horn Island, where he was last seen with friends on Saturday.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump has been retained by Wells' family, who are urgently demanding a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Crump stated on Tuesday, "We will not rest until every fact about what happened to Nolan on Horn Island is brought into the light, and we call on investigators to pursue this case with the urgency and transparency this family deserves."
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter reported that Wells traveled to Horn Island with friends but did not return with the group. According to witnesses interviewed by investigators, Wells allegedly chose to remain on the island, believing he could catch another ride back to the mainland later. His mother reported him missing that same night.
Search crews located Wells' body on Monday, and an autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. As of now, authorities have not released these details, and the investigation remains active. Sheriff Ledbetter confirmed that Wells' friends have been cooperating with investigators.
Wells, who would have celebrated his 19th birthday next month, was remembered by his mother, Christine Wonsley, who has appealed for anyone with photos, videos, or information from Horn Island during that period to come forward. The community awaits further developments in this tragic case, hoping for clarity and justice for Nolan.
