Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress MLA from West Bengal, is set to launch his own political party on Monday, signaling a bold shift in the state's electoral landscape. On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool factions alike watched as Kabir used his platform to rally those who oppose both major parties to join hands for a broader front.
Earlier, posters and posters-for-donation signs surfaced in Beldanga, Murshidabad, indicating the venue for the formal announcement at Khagrupara More. Donors have contributed around ₹1.30 crore toward what organizers describe as a Babri Masjid-style project, a point that has become a focal element of Kabir’s outreach and the broader narrative around his new political venture.
Kabir has said the new party will act as a platform for marginalised people in the state and has floated the possibility of seat-sharing with other opposition groups. He indicated openness to alliances with CPI(M), the Congress, and the Indian Secular Front, signaling a potential realignment of opposition forces ahead of elections. He stressed that those who stand against Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and the BJP should unite, even as he warned that if necessary he would contest all seats in West Bengal.
The development marks a notable moment in Bengal politics as the state gears up for forthcoming assembly elections, with Kabir framing his move as a bid to empower communities that he says have felt sidelined in recent years.
