Canada Enforces 21-Day Quarantine Amid Surging Ebola Outbreak in DR Congo

Canada is taking major steps to prevent the spread of Ebola by requiring a 21-day self-isolation for any travelers arriving from regions currently battling the virus. This move comes as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) struggles to contain an outbreak that officials say is spreading faster than initially expected. Along with the quarantine, Canadian immigration authorities are putting a temporary hold on applications from the DRC, South Sudan, and Uganda.

On the ground in the DRC, the situation is becoming increasingly dire. The military governor of the Ituri province, which is at the heart of the crisis, has compared the fight against the virus to a literal war. He warned that without a swift international response, the region could descend into a total catastrophe.
