Satya Niketan Collapse: PG Operator Arrested Amid Delhi Building Crackdown!

The investigation into the devastating collapse of a five-storey paying guest (PG) building in South West Delhi’s Satya Niketan has led to significant arrests, with police apprehending Sudhanshu, one of the operators of the PG accommodation. The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, resulted in the deaths of seven people and injured five others.

Authorities are intensifying their probe, specifically examining the roles of the building's leaseholders and the nature of construction and repair work undertaken in the basement and on the ground floor. The collapsed structure had been operating as 'Hostel Daze' PG, a chain with multiple branches in the area. Students living nearby have reported that the building stood non-functional for several years before being leased out to Mr.

Sudhanshu and two other individuals last year, who subsequently managed its daily operations.

The crackdown extends further, as police also arrested labour contractor Sanoj from Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Earlier, on Monday, September 7, 2026, a Delhi court remanded Hariram, an ex-IAF sergeant, and his wife Urmila, to 14 days' judicial custody. Their son, Mahesh, was held in police custody for two days and was presented in court again as his remand concluded.

Police records indicate the property was registered under Ms. Urmila's name, with Mr. Hariram and Mr.

Mahesh actively involved in its management.

The ongoing investigation is scrutinizing allegations of unauthorised construction.

Following the tragic event, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a sealing drive, leading to the evacuation of nearby hostels and PGs. The building adjacent to the collapsed structure is also being demolished due to pressing safety concerns, highlighting a broader issue of illegal and unsafe constructions in the area.

Meanwhile, around 150 students have initiated an indefinite protest, demanding the release of complete casualty data, and hundreds are vacating their accommodations, leaving Satya Niketan amid the demolition drive and safety anxieties.

Delhi's Chief Minister has also ordered a scrutiny of records pertaining to illegal constructions.
