AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel announced on Friday in Amritsar that Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been expelled from the Congress, after she had said she quit the party. The move comes weeks after her suspension was previously imposed, and it formalizes the party's stance amid ongoing tensions around Punjab leadership and loyalty. Baghel made the declaration while addressing supporters at a rally aimed at highlighting welfare programs under the MGNREGA Bachao Sangram initiative.
In the same breath, Sidhu’s wife and former BJP-turned-Congress leader launched a broad attack on party leadership, including a sharp dig at Rahul Gandhi. In a post on X, she accused Gandhi of being out of touch with ground realities, contending that his inner circle protects him while tickets are sold long before any major decision. She did not hold back as she challenged Gandhi to address the concerns of Punjab and those who stand with her husband’s political trajectory.
The exchange has drawn attention to the broader political dynamic in Punjab, where party loyalties and leadership questions have become a focal point ahead of elections. Sidhu’s outspoken stance, including criticisms of party leadership and governance, appears to have deepened rifts within the Congress, culminating in formal expulsion.
