On Saturday, Jan. 24, around 9:00 a.m. local time, DHS officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an armed man believed to be wanted for violent assault. A 37-year-old man died in what authorities described as a confrontation with federal agents.
The suspect approached the officers with a handgun and violently resisted as they attempted to disarm him. A DHS agent fired defensive shots, and medics on the scene provided aid before the man was pronounced dead. Officials said the suspect had two magazines and no ID.
Officials did not immediately release the subject's name. A DHS assistant secretary said the shooting occurred during the operation, and Gov. Tim Walz reacted, saying, "Minnesota has had it. This is sickening." More details are expected as investigators review the incident.
