IIT-D Scholar Dies After Injuries; Abetment of Suicide FIR Filed
Tragic news from Delhi: An IIT Delhi PhD scholar has died after being found injured in his home. Police register FIR for abetment of suicide as investigation begins.
A profound tragedy has struck the academic community in Delhi. An IIT Delhi PhD scholar, who had been fighting for his life for over 45 days after being found unconscious at his rented residence in Munirka, has sadly passed away at AIIMS. Following this somber development, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with his death.
The scholar was discovered in a critical state on August 18 at his home in Munirka. His door was locked from the inside, prompting neighbours to break it open to render aid.
Police were immediately alerted and he was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he received intensive treatment.
Despite the best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on October 3, marking a sorrowful end to his arduous struggle.
The FIR, registered on Sunday, falls under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to abetment of suicide. This legal action was initiated following a complaint lodged by a security officer from IIT Delhi, and importantly, was filed based on directives from the Supreme Court. The registration of the FIR signifies a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the scholar's death.
Authorities have clarified that neither the scholar's family nor any witnesses have raised suspicions or made allegations against any specific individual in relation to the incident. Furthermore, CCTV footage from outside his residence reportedly confirms that the scholar was alone inside his house prior to being discovered. The police have stated that a thorough investigation is actively underway to ascertain all facts.
