AAP Sweeps Punjab Civic Polls: A Big Win Before the Assembly Elections

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured a massive victory in the Punjab civic body elections, signaling a strong start ahead of next year's Assembly polls. As the counting of votes continues, the ruling party has already crossed the 690-ward mark, sparking early celebrations across the state.

Party workers were seen dancing to 'dhol' beats and distributing sweets as results poured in from 102 municipal bodies. AAP leader Manish Sisodia hailed the victory, thanking voters for their continued trust in Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Sisodia also took a swipe at the BJP, claiming that their political tactics had failed in Punjab, pointing out that many opposition candidates even lost their security deposits.

The numbers paint a clear picture of dominance. While AAP has won 698 wards so far, the Congress is trailing behind with 281 wards. Independent candidates put up a surprising show with 217 wins, followed by the Shiromani Akali Dal at 150. The BJP managed to win 79 wards, while the BSP secured six.

Some of the most notable results came from areas traditionally considered strongholds of rival leaders. In Gidderbaha, which is the home turf of Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, AAP won a staggering 17 out of 19 wards. Similarly, the party registered a solid victory in Dhuri.

Amidst these election results, the BJP has also made a strategic move by appointing Kewal Singh Dhillon as its Punjab president. The party is clearly looking to reshape its image in the state, focusing on social engineering to connect with Jat Sikh voters and Dalit communities. With the Assembly elections on the horizon, these civic poll results serve as a major morale booster for the AAP and a wake-up call for the opposition.
